Last month we shared some of the new features of the iPhone 15, now it’s time to see what competitor Google has to offer in their new Pixel 8 range.

Magic Editor

One of the most exciting new features on the Pixel 8 is the new Magic Editor. Following on from the Magic Eraser which was debuted by Google on the Pixel 6 in 2021 and allowed you to remove anything you didn’t want in a photo. Google have now managed to wow us all again by allowing us to literally move an object or a person to a different place in a photo, and make it seem like nothing’s been changed. Magic Editor also lets you change the lighting in a photo aswell! If you take a photo and the lighting looks dull because of some grey clouds in the sky, you are able to get rid of those clouds and add in a sunset with the perfect lighting.

Best Take

Best Take is another VERY exciting (and crazy) new feature that Google have introduced to the Pixel 8. There’s always that one guy who has his eyes closed in the (almost) perfect group photo. Well not anymore! You can now change the facial expression on a persons face in a photo. Yes, you read that correctly. This feature takes another frame from what was captured and gives you different options on what facial expression you want someone to have in a photo.

More camera upgrades!

Of course, there has been some big upgrades on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro cameras. Every camera on both of the new models have been upgraded, including the main camera, which now takes better photos in low-light settings. The Pixel also has been given a bigger ultrawide lens, which captures 56% more light. The front camera has now also been given autofocus, perfect for your selfie takers! The camera app on the Pixel has been given a slight redesign aswell, making it quicker and easier for you to capture the shots you want.

What do you think?

Altogether on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro it seems like Google are continuing to put a lot of focus on their camera to make it the best phone out there in terms of capturing photos. But the main question is, are you going to be siding with Apple or Google this year with their latest mobile releases?
