WestSpring get stuck into gardening at Charity of the Year, Alive Activities, allotments.

Who are Alive Activities?

Alive Activities was chosen as WestSpring’s 2024 Charity of the Year. Alive Activities are dedicated to improving the quality of life of older people and their carers. Alive run meaningful activities to engage older people creatively and reduce social isolation by connecting them to their local communities.

Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH)

Alive has been running social and therapeutic horticulture (STH) sessions in care homes and community gardens across Bristol for over a decade and have witnessed first-hand the difference it can make to people’s lives. When the opportunity arose for us to volunteer at Alive’s allotments we jumped at the chance.

Getting our hands dirty

Our WestSpring volunteers were blessed with some typically wet British weather but that didn’t stop them. Tash, Emily, Meg, Matt, Fergus and Max spent the moving loading and unloading topsoil, preparing the flower beds and tidying up the allotments ready for STH sessions to be held. It was clear to see how hard they’d looked by how exhausted (and filthy!) the team were when they got back to the office.
