Introduction
Welcome to our blog focusing on the retirement of Windows 10 and the importance of switching over to Windows 11.
We’ll look at what the end of Windows 10 support means for your organisation and why migrating across to Windows 11 is essential for security, productivity and compliance.
What does the retirement of Windows 10 mean for your business?
The retirement of Windows 10 means that this workhorse Operating System (OS) is finally being put out to pasture. For a decade, Windows 10 has been providing us with the OS we need to work efficiently and swiftly, but soon Microsoft will withdraw support.
This means that there will be no further system, feature or security updates after October 2025, which could leave your client files and customer data vulnerable. There will also be no free support available for Windows 10 from Microsoft should you need it.
Whilst Windows 10 has served us well, it’s time to hand it the metaphorical carriage clock and wish it well, as we look ahead to a productive and secure future with Windows 11.
When does Windows 10 support end?
Microsoft will officially withdraw support for Windows 10 on Tuesday 14th October 2025. Whilst your team’s PCs or laptops will still function after this date, your entire system will become increasingly defenceless against malware.
Microsoft is recommending users migrate to Windows 11 sooner rather than later. Ongoing support and updates for this OS will keep your system and files more secure.
If your IT team is unable to meet the October date, Microsoft is offering a one-year Extended Security Updates (ESU) program to Windows 10 users, but it will cost you! It will allow your organisation to receive important security updates only (no other updates or technical support), and whilst it will help protect your Windows 10 device, it’s a short-term workaround, not a long-term solution.
Keeping your systems secure: Why it’s important to move to Windows 11
As we’ve already touched on, the main consideration regarding Windows 10 end of life is security.
Without a secure OS, your customer data and files (and all your hard work) are left unguarded. As time goes on, your system will become increasingly vulnerable to attack, with no security patches applied from Microsoft.
This could put you in danger of losing not only your data, but also that of your clients and customers. A major headache worthy of your immediate attention.
To remain secure and compliant, upgrading your business or organisation to Windows 11 will ensure you receive the security updates and patches crucial to keeping your systems running smoothly.
What are the benefits of switching to Windows 11 for my business?
Switching to Windows 11 gives your business the security, speed and modern features you need to stay productive and protected. Alongside enhanced security and protection, benefits include improved integration with Microsoft Office and other modern software. Compatibility with today’s hardware devices is also upgraded. This all helps your team to work efficiently and securely.
