When your computer is running slow it can hinder your work and drive you mad! It’s a common theme that we see a lot; it can also sometimes be an easy fix! First things first: when was the last time you shut down or restarted your computer? Be honest! A lot of people assume that there is no harm in leaving your device running for a few days (or even weeks) on end. But this is a habit that can take a toll on your computer’s performance. That’s why checking something called your uptime is a great place to start when your computer starts running slow.
What is uptime?
The term ‘uptime’ means how long your laptop has been powered on without a restart. If your device has been on for more than two days, you may start to experience issues such as slowness, overheating and reduced battery life. When your laptop is running, it does not have chance to download crucial software and security updates.
How do you check uptime?
To check your uptime, press ctrl + shift + esc to bring up your task manager, then select ‘Performance’ where you will find your uptime listed.
My uptime is high, what should I do next?
If once you check your uptime and see it is higher than 2 days, a simple restart could solve all your problems!
